Trend focus: Botanicals – bringing the outside in

Botanical design is all about connecting with and celebrating the natural world – particularly through the use of plant motifs and serene, green colour palettes. From bold, abstract tropical prints, to intricate botanical illustrations, this trend is a varied one, and has inspired much of our own work. Here are just a few ways you can bring a sense of lush leafiness to your life.

Go green
Green – the colour of growth, life and harmony – is also proven to promote creativity, clarity and open-mindedness when we’re exposed to it. So integrating this natural hue into your home interiors can only be a good thing. One of our go-to brands for paint and wallpaper inspiration is the Little Greene Paint Company, an eco-friendly, family-run business cataloguing 300 years of design. Their paints are top-quality, and their vast palette of greens is sure to bring a soothing, elegant and tranquil vibe to any space – the Sage Green and Jewel Beetle shades are some of our favourites!

Focus on florals
The botanical trend isn’t just limited to plants and greenery – fabulous florals and beautiful blooms are celebrated too. For floral luxury, look no further than William Morris. His timeless designs evoke the opulence and heritage of an English country garden and can be paired with more modern pieces and patterns to create a twist on a classic. Art prints are also a striking yet cost-effective way of injecting some florals into your home. You can find some great contemporary options over at East End Prints.

Discover the power of plants
Whether they’re all natural, or floral fakery – indoor plants are a joyful addition to any space. If you’re an aspiring or well-established plant parent, you’ll want the real thing. Plants and flowers inject life, light and oxygen into living spaces and their benefits are wide-ranging. If you’re not sure where to start, or just fancy some inspiration, here’s a handy guide for turning your home into a mini jungle. We’re loving dried flowers at the moment – all the beauty and none of the maintenance! Mud Urban Flowers based in Glasgow offer stylish and unique dried bouquets and provide delivery all over the UK.

Mix it up
When you can’t choose one colour or scheme – choose them all! Clashing florals and botanical prints are united by their focus on nature, and work together to reflect the wild and wonderful wilderness. Nature isn’t consistent or uniform – and neither should your home or space be. One of our favourite interiors bloggers showing us how to master the art of clashing botanical-inspired décor is The Idle Hands. In fact, she’s written a whole blog about how to mix patterns here.

Say it with a Kindred card
And of course, a post on botanical-inspired design wouldn’t be complete without a nod to our own creative efforts. The great thing about this trend is that it’s so versatile – you can convey any message or sentiment using natural visuals. We especially love these Kendra Dandy cards which have such a sassy and empowering feel. You can shop these and more of our cards here.
